July 2012 Club Meeting

Jul 7, 2012 – Today's RCB monthly meeting packed Susie's yet again. After the treasurer's report (plenty of money to fund all planned 2012 events) and membership report (prompt renewals are always appreciated), President Gordy opened the floor to new business.

Both are powered by the same 798cc liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine, and while the F800GS retains its 85 hp at 7,500 rpm rating, the F700GS (formerly the F650GS), gets a small bump to 75hp at 7,300 rpm.

2012 RA Rally Photos

June 23, 2012 - Several RCB'ers braved Nevada and Utah deserts, 9,000+ ft altitudes and a flat tire outside of Rachel to attend the 2012 BMW RA 40th Anniversary International Rally in Copper Mountain, CO. While the event was well attended, well organized and the food exceptionally good, more than one commented that the best part of the Rally was the Journey. Riding some of Colorado's and Utah's hidden roads provided visual delights along the way. We don't have a lot of pictures, but the first are now posted.

Lane Splitting News

June 20, 2012 - A recently published report from the California Office of Traffic Safety regarding Lane Splitting contains some relevant data for California motorcycle riders. The OTS surveyed 733 drivers in 12 Northern and Southern California counties, including Sacramento county, to compile the results.

June 2012 Club Ride

Jun 7, 2012 - The day started out with a good and familiar look - breakfast at Susie's, followed by a ride through the farms and orchards of Davis, in to the back roads of Winters to the winding road of route 128. From there we wound our way alongside Putah Creek, and Lake Berryessa. From there, it was on to Petaluma for a well-received break and stop for refreshments. Ken was amazing in his route-finding, again. Who knew there was a route through historical, Victorian Petaluma, on to the rural Marshall-Petaluma highway.

BMW Motorrad USA Newletter

Cloverdale News - Kabins Going Fast

May 30, 2012 - Cloverdale may still be four months away, but word from the Sonoma County KOA is that Kabins are going fast. It might be wise to consider reserving now.

KOA Kabins offer an alternative to sleeping on the ground in a tent - Kabins come in a variety of sizes, but generally there are three beds (Queen plus bunks), a small desk and an electrical outlet in a smallish 8x12 ft space. The beds have mattresses but you will still need a sleeping bag (or your own sheets).

RCB FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

May 28, 2012 - New members always express surprise and amazement at our organizational expertise and efficiency. They marvel at the number of events, the quality of events and the planning skills of the organizers. They probably think we're *that* good!

Well, we are, but the truth be known we operate under a set of strict rules codified into our official RCB FAQ years ago. Yes, I know it's sacrilegious to acknowledge we have rules, but c'mon, even Hannibal crossing the Alps had some rules.

Christmas in July, er, August

May 27, 2012 - The Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento was grateful for our efforts last holiday season but indicated that their kids would appreciate this attention all year, not just at Christmas. Why not?
