January 2014 President's Corner

Happy 2014 to everyone!

It is hard to believe that another riding year has begun already, but here it is. I hope that every RCB’er considers adding the following to his or her list of New Year’s Resolutions: (Note: If necessary to save space on your list you may delete any resolutions regarding losing weight, stopping smoking/drinking, exercising more, finally getting your high school diploma, etc.).

December 2013 President's Corner

by Gordy Olson, RCBPREZ

This is the last newsletter of the year and also the last of my current term as President. That said, due to the brilliance of my re-election campaign (coupled with the unwillingness of any other RCB’er to even consider serving as president!), I will be back again in 2014 to lead our merry band! Naturally, I will be assisted by the other officers and board members who were recently elected. The Club simply could not function without their tireless efforts and their combined good humor.

RCB Christmas Party 2013

The annual RCB Christmas/Holiday Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, beginning at 6:30pm at A&S Motorsports.  We will start setting up after 5pm when A&S closes for the day and would welcome any volunteers to help with the tables, etc.

As usual, the Club will provide turkey, ham, and a variety of beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

New Date for the Annual Toy Run!

Instead of trying to have our monthly meeting, the toy run and our Christmas dinner all on the same day, we have moved the toy run to Saturday, November 23. This date does not conflict with either our holiday dinner or the Thanksgiving weekend, and has been approved by the Children's Receiving Home. We will once again be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for the kids, the staff, (and us too) as part of the toy run, so those who want to help flip burgers please look for a sign up on the forum soon.

October 2013 President's Corner

Fall has officially arrived, so it’s time to redirect our attention from riding (summer style) to riding (autumn style).  Please note that I did not recommend riding in “fall style” as that may have been misinterpreted by some as a PREZidential directive to just “Lay ‘er down!” rather than applying the brakes with force, skill, and confidence.

RCB Fall Classic 2013

Fri-Sun, Oct 4-Oct 6, 2013

Once again, the River City Beemers are taking their October club meeting, their October club ride and as many members as possible on the road. This year, we're going back to our old favorite, Manchester Beach.

August 2013 President's Corner

PRESIDENT’S CORNER by Gordy Olson

I am happy to report that we are all back safely from Salem, Oregon after a truly fantastic BMW MOA National rally.

The River City Beemers had 68 members in attendance – more than any other chartered club! Naturally, as an outlaw club we are all about stickin’ it to The Man. So when we were advised by the authorities that we would need to complete some paperwork before receiving our certificate we responded that “We don’t need no stinkin’ certificate!” and went back to drinking beer and swapping stories. We not only had the largest turnout of any club, we also had the largest banner! Make no mistake – size matters! You could sense the feelings of inadequacy from the other clubs, but we were all mature enough not to gloat.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER by Gordy Olson

Happy Fourth of July, all you German-machine-loving American patriots!! Prime riding season is here and that means the BMW MOA National Rally is upon us, special discounts at A&S for RCB members are available (details later in this column), and we will soon be smashing pins again in Yerington!!

Where to begin???……….There is a lot going on in and around the Club, so my corner may be somewhat larger than normal, but please bear with me.

May 2013 President's Corner

Apr 24, 2013 - We are now coming into the prime riding season and those of us with new bikes (and there are quite of few of us!) are even more excited than usual about testing ourselves and our mounts against the area’s twistiests! Every time we throw a leg over we have to marvel at how lucky we are to live and ride in Northern California. Whether you enter the BMW mileage contest or not, commit to riding more often, longer, smarter, and more safely this year than you did last year.
