February 2013 Ride Report

Feb 6, 2013 - The ride for February took us to the Schellville Grill near the town of Sonoma.

There were about 18 of us, following a familiar path around Davis toward Lake Berryessa with cool weather for the first couple of hours. After a rest stop at Berryessa we continued on to Pope Canyon Road and Howell Mountain Road to the Silverado Trail, where the weather suddenly warmed to the mid-60s and the roads became clearer and drier.

From there we found our way to the Old Sonoma Road and the Sonoma Highway leading to the amazing Schellville Grill, where the company, the service, and the food made for a great time after a fun ride.

Matthew Nagan, Owner

“Here's this joint that you drive by all the time, and here's this character making dynamite food.”
— Guy Fieri, The Food Network

Matthew is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). He moved to Sonoma County in 1988, where he created a line of mustards, salad dressings and burritos. Matthew’s Burritos are still sold in the West and Midwest, though Matthew has since turned over the business operations. He opened the Schellville Grill in 2002.

In 2008, he spent a summer in Tuscany studying Italian cuisine (and teaching them a thing or two as well!). While there, he purchased a home in San Gennaro which is available to rent, with optional culinary tours available as well!
