I reserved a camping area for RCB members in the Chartered Club area of the fairgrounds. I hope to arrive early Thursday afternoon. The RCB banner will go up shortly after I arrive. A copy of the Rally site map is attached.

Please remember to identify yourself as a RCB member when registering. We were only 2-3 people shy of having the greatest number of members in Billings. We'd like to claim that honor in SLC.

I was wondering if anyone has a Twinmax throttle synchronizer that I could use? My R1100RT is running a bit rough. I live in Fair Oaks.

TMoe,
I ended up makin a deal on Gary Stofers 13gsw. Wanted to keep it with RCB. Rode it initially 190 miles and realized what a rockin mtr. Gsw is. Rode it again 250 miles of Ice House/Wentworth and fell in love. What a motor! Thought the Camhead was good (and it is) but the wc is better. I will be riding it to the MOA SLC next month as I want Gary's bike there for a RCB group photo op. See you there!

Motorcycle Discussions • R1200RT Liquid Cooled 1500 mile test ride

RCB Forum - Tue, 06/20/2017 - 9:12pm
A little background for those who may not know me. I lived and rode in Sacramento until November 2014 when I moved to Bozeman, MT. In 2007 I bought a 2005 R1200RT with low miles and put 50K on it. In 2015 I purchased a 2102 R1200RT here in MT and put 5500 miles on it selling it after I bought the water buffalo in May. After putting 1500 miles on this new ride I can’t help but wonder why I didn’t buy a R1200RTW in 2015 and certainly wish I had. What a real difference. The new model feels lower in center of gravity and seats just a bit lower too making flat footing it seem much easier. The power is awesome. A friend with a WC GS compares it to a Porsche engine in just how quickly it gains revs, I agree. The wet clutch and clutch less shifting is taking some getting used to but I am sure I will. This is a very nimble bike with really good manners and quite sporty when pushed. As to Montana riding we have hugely variable temperatures, wind, some curvy roads but more long miles on relatively flat straight roads in a heavy winds and worse crosswinds. The RT is great in these conditions allowing for long days in the saddle. Sunday my buddy with the GS WC and I encountered a construction project (Montana has two seasons, winter and construction) with several miles of loose gravel. I don’t know if my dirt bike background made the difference or not but I outran him easily on the gravel.

This is the finest motorcycle I have ever ridden and I just can’t wait to put miles and miles on it. Give me a map of Montana, a BMW R1200RT, a roll of toilet paper and time to ride. Joy, oh Joy.
My only negative is that at 80 MPH and about 4300 RPM I get a bit of buzz in the handlebars and foot pegs. Unfortunate as we have miles of 80 MPH highways in MT. I would be curious to know if other R1200 WC owners have experienced this as well. A seventh gear would be handy.

Unlike Fred Jewell, this really is my last bike. I just can’t imagine improving this model. But of course……..

Tom Moe, MT RTW rider.

Come on riders and sign up for the SS1000 to the MOA in Salt Lake City!! Just need a couple more (8 to be exact!!) to obtain the lower cost and easier paperwork requirements and we will head north through Idaho where it is certain to be cooler than this weekend (dont think it could get worse).

Thanks to those brave souls who trekked out to Pine Creek in the Monitor Valley. Yes, it was a long drive, but the reward was spending time with fellow RCB riders and meeting interesting locals e.g., Heidi and the Round Mountain bunch. Scott
